Everett Railroad, December 16th, 2017

For many of the weekends between Thanksgiving and Christmas, the Everett Railroad brings out their lovely little 2-6-0 and hauls Santa up and down the valley of the Frankstown Branch of the Juniata River in Blair County, Pa., just south of Altoona.  Built in Schenectady, N.Y., in 1920 by Alco  for sugar service in Cuba, but never exported, the locomotive went to railroads in Rhode Island and then upstate New York before going to one of the pioneer operating museums, Rail City in Sandy Pond, N.Y.; after four decades out of service, she came back to life in 2015, thanks to the Everett's owner, Alan Maples, who has a deep love for steam railroading and the desire to share it with new generations.  I saw #11 for the first time in November of 2015, and I admired the countryside through which she now steams (and made some satisfying images); I also met the friendly railroaders of the Everett, and as of mid-2018 I have made 15 trips out there: It never gets old.  On this occasion, I had the company of my friends Ross and Kenny Gochenaur, and we photographed and rode the train together all day.
