Cabride on the Bel-Del, June 2016

On a warm June day, I rode along for a few trips with the engine crew of "Susquehanna 142", now owned by the New York, Susquehanna & Western Technical & Historical Society.  Built in China in 1989 for the Valley Railroad in Connecticut, the 2-8-2 came to the Susie Q in the early 1990s as the railroad built up its tourist passenger business (and a commuter line in Syracuse, N.Y.); following the death of the railroad's owner, Walter Rich, the engine got renamed for him and passed to the Society, which operates #142 on the Black River Railroad System's former Pennsy Belvidere-Delaware Division south of Phillipsburg, New Jersey.
